Abstract
Sibling experience: A neglected psychic dimension: A summary of the literature. – In psychoanalytic theory siblings are a largely neglected topic. The article traces the historical development of psychoanalytic theories on siblings. The overview of the discourse on the subject proceeds initially from the scattered allusions and assumptions to be found in the works of Sigmund Freud, Melanie Klein, and Anna Freud. Empirical research findings have cast doubt on some firmly established assumptions. More recent approaches come mostly from English-speaking theoreticians. The author discusses a selection of their contributions.
